Repost: Bills seeks maternity leave for unmarried pregnant gov't workers

By Marjorie Gorospe
QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA -- A measure filed in Congress seeks to grant maternity leaves to unmarried pregnant government employees.
House Bill 4684, principally authored by General Assembly Binding Women for Reforms, Integrity, Equality, Leadership, and Action (Gabriela) Representative Emmi De Jesus, states that women in government service should be given the maternity leave regardless of marital status.
De Jesus stressed that the government should recognize the important role of women in society and it is the state’s obligation to protect working women as specifically stated in the Article III, Section 14 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution.
This, however, is not yet fully recognized by the government as present legislation is still discriminatory to women, said De Jesus, who is also the vice chair of the House Committee on Population and Family Relations.
De Jesus further reiterated that the present law also violates the equal protection principle under Philippine laws.
Gabriela Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan, A co-author of the bill, added that the present law on maternity leave deprives both the unmarried woman and the unborn child of the protection they are entitled to.
Maternity leave benefits are being given to pregnant women in the private sector regardless of marital status in accordance to RA 8282 or the Social Security System Act.
Women’s groups are also supporting the granting of maternity leaves to unmarried pregnant workers in government.

Birthday Celebration Preparations

In the last 2 weeks were i attended several children's party, i grab the opportunity to ask fellow moms about birthday celebration preparations and was surprised how time consuming it can be. I talked to some mom during the party said that they give a 4 months preparation. Imagine 4 months!

My daughter and I will be celebrating our 1st birthday party ever, that's i wanted it to be extra-special.
Soon after the conversation i counted the remaining months and found out that i have 4 months to go! I am targeting Nov 5, 2011 as our date.

Their advice to look on the following:

  • Budget-How much are you willing to spend?
  • Venue- Priority as we have to book on our date and time.
  • Venue Accessibility- For your guests consideration. Parking and easy to locate.
  • Date- Of course we'd love our party to be well attended, so lets check a good date.
  • Party theme- Cuz this will basis to all printed material, cakes, decorations and give-aways.
  • Food- Whether we like it our not, we should serve different food to kids and adult.
  • Decorations- dress up the party!
  • Party Activities- to make the party more lively. Most moms goes for face painting, magic show, bubble show, puppet, clowns and games.
  • Add-ons- loot bags, giveaways and prices.
Most of the moms i was able to talk to settles for fast-food parties of the following:

in ranking:
  1. Jollibee- because their kiddo love Jollibbe! (who would not?)
  2. Mc Donalds- Friendlier cost of foods, more lenient than Jollibee.
  3. Shakey's- Fast emerging children's party. Cuztomizable and lenient but w/ corkage fee.
Party themes:

Max's Restaurant : Chicken-all-you-can is back!

From June 10 to July 10, 2011. Daily. 6-10pm

I'm a Cloth Diaper Lover!

So, why I choose Cloth Diapers?

  • ·         Mainly, cloth diapers are soft in our baby's skin.
  •      I don't want a toxic pollutant to cause problems in humans.

My Savings in using cloth diapers:

Cloth diaper instead of disposable diaper. Since my baby use 2 brands of diaper. One during night time and the other day time.

Monthly consumption:

3packs of Medium (pampers) in a month for her night use.
That’s:
3 packs  X 89/pack = 267pesos/month

In day use:
3 diapers in a day X 30 days = 90 diapers
90 diaper X 6 pesos =540 pesos/month

I started using cloth diaper when she turned 2 months old (now she’s 7).

Now we only use 2 diapers in a day.
2 diapers in a day X 30 days = 60 diapers
60 diaper X 6 pesos = 360 pesos/month

That’s 180pesos savings in a month!

5 Minutes Tuna Spread

This afternoon, office decided to a kinda healthy snack. We come up with a 5  minutes tuna spread.
All ingredients can be found at the pantry J.

Ingredients:
1.       2 pcs can tuna ( we used san marino chili)
2.       6spoonful of mayonnaise-lite
3.       Gardenia loaf
4.       Lettuce
5.       Tomato

And this is what we got!

I hope that this is as easy as preparing for a baby food. Takes me a lot of time reading and preparing for
My 7months old baby. Happy to know that she still love the cereals, thanks for the variety!
